Why did my shipping label fail to print?

Resolve label printing failures caused by carrier rejections, address issues, or printer problems.

When a label fails, the error message displayed at the top of the order is verbatim from the carrier or shipping platform. Reading it carefully usually points straight at the fix.

Address rejected by carrier

Carriers run their own validation in addition to ours. A residential address marked as commercial, an apartment number in the wrong field, or an unrecognized ZIP code will all cause a rejection.

  • Re-validate the address using the Validate Address button on the order.
  • Move apartment, suite, or unit numbers into Address Line 2.
  • Confirm the ZIP and state actually match — common typos cause silent failures.

Insufficient postage or account balance

If you are using your own carrier account through ShipStation, an empty postage balance will block label generation. Top up the account, then click Retry on the failed shipment.

Printer not responding

Label PDFs are generated server-side and downloaded to your browser. If the file downloads but does not print, the issue is between your browser and your printer — not the platform.
